This year we have been working closely with organisations such as In2MedSchool, Hertford College at the University of Oxford, Emmanuel College at the University of Cambridge, The London Interdisciplinary School and several of our recent alumni to develop a vibrant, engaging and relevant programme for our students.
Work experience
Students in the Sixth Form complete a week of work experience in July of Year 12.
Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) Level 3 Qualification
Students can choose to undertake an EPQ to add breadth to their study choices. An EPQ is equivalent to half an A-level and carries the equivalent UCAS points. It will help you develop a useful range of extra study skills, helping you prepare for the demands of university work. It is valued by higher education institutions as it demonstrates your dedication to independent learning and is often included in offers made to applicants. An EPQ is an exciting opportunity to study independently a topic that interests you and build a hypothesis or key question. You create a piece of writing and showcase what you have studied.
Core Maths – Level 3 Mathematical Studies
Core Maths covers aspects of maths that you might actually use in your life and job as well as supporting the maths content in other courses. Core Maths is equivalent to half an A level and carries the equivalent UCAS points. It provides students with a ‘maths for life’ education. The benefits of this course are huge for our students and will give them the “edge” in many ways. Students will solve problems involving finance, statistics, and estimation and develop their critical thinking skills. The skills that are learnt during the course will aid achievement in a variety of A level /vocational courses including, but not limited to, accounting, geography, economics, business, psychology and the sciences. These qualifications have a high mathematical content and continued maths study, especially if not studying maths A level is hugely supportive of higher attainment. Therefore, core maths will form part of the taught curriculum, academic and personal development, for all students, studied alongside 3 A levels or a vocational pathway.
