Careers
We believe that our Careers Education and Information, Advice and Guidance should provide:
Comprehensive up-to-date careers information
All students are given the opportunity to attend a careers convention which offers education training and employment information.
Information, Advice and Guidance
This is impartial, up-to-date, easily accessible and supports students in making informed career decisions.
A Careers Education Programme
The programme is built on the basis that students need a variety of skills, knowledge, support and experience of work in order that they can make the right career choices.
Equality of opportunity
This is incorporated in all our work.
Careers programme
We work with independent careers advisors from Essex County Council, that comes into school two days a week to interview students and advice them on their post-16 and post-18 options.
During the year we have a range of careers events and activities, as well as a careers related learning within our curriculum.
This includes:
- PD sessions focussed on key areas of employability and careers
- In Personal, Social, Health, and Economic Education lessons students learn employability skills.
- An annual careers week with visits from employers
- Activities on our regular circle days
- Assemblies
Our careers team at school is experienced in various aspects of offering advice and guidance and are supported by the wider staff of the school and a range of external partners and agencies.
- Analysing our annual destination data for Y11 and Y13
- Conducting Student Voice sessions with our Student parliament
- Evaluations of our events, trips and employer engagements
- The careers provision and strategy is reviewed regularly by the team of staff responsible and the careers programme is measured against the Gatsby Benchmarks using the Compass Toolkit.
