Consultation on Proposed Sale of Parcel of Land in Warley
Consultation
The formal consultation regarding the sale of the Redgras area at Warley Playing Fields will run from Wednesday 10th September 2025 to the 22nd October 2025. We would like to understand your views regarding our plans to dispose of this parcel of land.
Osborne Co-operative Academy Trust are proposing to sell 10,207sq mtrs of land known as the Redgras area at Warley Playing Fields. This fenced area of the site has been derelict and unused for over 18 years. Areas of it have become overgrown and it has been secured on several occasions but keeps getting broken into. This area requires significant investment to bring it back into use as a sporting facility. With budget constraints, Brentwood County High School does not have the funds to be able to invest in this land either now or the near future.
The Trust is very passionate about having fit for purpose sporting facilities that benefit its students and local community.
We have been approached by Rise Gym, who own the leisure facilities adjacent to the site, and they wish to invest in this land and will use it to provide some much-needed sporting facilities. They are looking to install Paddle Courts, a MUGA and a sprint track. These facilities will be made available at no cost to the school during agreed hours and during the school term; this will be through a formal agreement. The school will also be able to let other local schools use this facility during the hours it will be allocated. The courts will then be hired out to the local community at other times. This is a very exciting opportunity that supports fitness and at no cost to the public purse. Our vision is to improve sporting facilities for both the school and the local community. Enhancing a sports offer will support keeping people fit and healthy.
The Trust aims to re-invest the proceeds from the sale, if agreed by the Department for Education, at Brentwood County High School by refurbishing the onsite swimming pool which is currently closed as it requires significant investment. This facility in the past was used by both the school and the community and was very popular in providing swimming lessons to the local community. This would be a great asset to all and again could be brought back into use at no cost to the public purse.
We invite you to participate in the consultation in three ways: consultation meeting, completing our consultation questionnaire and by contacting us directly.
