Year 7
DTC
To improve and move up to the next pathway you should work on the key topic areas below. We have also provided video links to support both design and making skills used to improve pathway steps in DTC. We hope you find them useful.
Outside
- Design work does not reflect the chosen brief and needs to reflect the project in better detail.
- Make skills are very limited and needs further accuracy in marking out and when cutting materials.
- Design detailing does not link to ACCESS FM and must show this in your annotation of design work.
Working Towards
- Design work to show some elements of the project brief and shows a small range of ideas. Begin to develop a range of ideas.
- Develop your response to the project and practical work by showing some accuracy with cutting and marking out. Focus on measuring and accuracy with cutting.
- Ensure your design detailing links clearly to ACCESS FM in your design analysis to boost design ideas.
Core
- Your design work reflects the project in some detail but needs further development to take ideas to the next level.
- Your practical work shows a good range of make skills; however, you need to focus on accuracy with marking out and cutting.
- Some of your design detailing is linked to ACCESS FM. You must try to ensure all design ideas include design analysis.
Secure
- Your DTC design work clearly links to the project brief but you should try to develop ideas with more complexity.
- Your practical and making skills show a range of practical outcomes. Your work is cut mainly with accuracy but you need to ensure work is marked out with improved accuracy.
- You must ensure your design work is clearly linked to detailing and accuracy. Try to use ACCESS FM to fully embed design analysis.
Above
- Your design work shows strong links to the project brief across a range of ideas and just needs improved development with concepts showing more details.
- Your making skills show strong accuracy and you mark work out mostly well. You need to ensure use of a Try Square to allow fully accurate marking out when cutting materials.
- Again, your designs are drawn with clear design flair, accuracy and good detailing but ensure your product is analysed fully using links to ACCESS FM.
Exceptional
- You have shown some excellent design work. This work shows excellent links to meeting the project brief across a wide range of well-drawn conceptual ideas.
- All work is accurately marked out and cut with full accuracy. Your DTC Projects are constructed with clear detailing and are fully functional.
- Your designs are completed with detailed product analysis, which clearly links to ACCESS FM. Again, your final designs are drawn with clear detail and accuracy throughout.
